A late January blog entry.

Alabama gets at least a B today....maybe even a B+. The last Saturday in January and we awoke to a day full of sun and temps in the upper 50's. Tomorrow is supposed to make it up to the upper 60's, then the work week begins back down in the cold temps. Since I'm grading on a day by day basis we won't think about Monday and beyond for now.

Tammy and I had some obligations to take care of this morning, but then we met back up for a quick lunch at Taco Bell. This gave the winter sun time to warm the day up a bit so that we could load up on the Gold Wing and get the wheels humming on some pavement.

Tammy commented that it felt pretty chilly as we donned our riding gear in the garage. Thankfully the chill left as I backed Silver out of the garage and into the sun drenched driveway. It has been a couple of weeks since I've had Silver out of her stall so it was necessary to pump a few pounds of air into the front and back tires. Other than that, I was met with that familiar satisfaction as one touch of the starter brought the 6 cylinder powerplant to life. The Gold Wing is a fine machine, and I have yet to be disappointed by it's ability to start right up. Even after the poor machine has set out in below freezing temperatures all night while I'm on a road trip, this dependable road machine has never failed me. My respect for Honda's Wing grows the longer I own one.

Tammy hadn't been with me on a ride for quite a while so I figured I would try not to torture her with high winds or particulary shady roads. Instead, we stuck to roads that I knew had lots of sun. Those roads aren't necessarily the most "fun" riding roads, but we still had a great time just cruising around and seeing where the road took us. We wound up in the town we used to live in before moving here to Alabaster back in 1997. Our path took us by our oldest son's elementary school and many of the locations we haunted back in those days. It was an enjoyable trip down memory lane and the conversation was a pleasure as we recalled life back then. It reminded us of how blessed we have been as a family. God is good.

The temps are supposed to be even warmer tomorrow, and if all goes well my buddy Clem and I will get to take a ride. If that works out I'll try to get a few pics just so the blog entry won't be so dry :)

I've got an urge to blog about a movie I recently watched via Netflix's "Instant Viewing" option. It is called "Apocolypto" and was directed by Mel Gibson. I think I'll hold off on that for another day however.

Hope you all are having an excellent weekend.

Hey you have almost got South Florida temps there. Recently we saw whole bunch of Goldwings parked in Delray Beach and took some fantastic photos so when we do that post I will let you know. They were gorgeous machines and super decked out. We of course thought about you.

H-N-F, it's nice to know I've got some people in paradise who think of me from time to time :)

I'm looking forward to your post with the Wings.

An excellent weekend to you as well!

I'm usually a long distance rider. I find the slow, shorter trips with my wife to be some of my most pleasant memories. Your post is a good reminder on perspective.

Yeah, it's great to shake off the cobwebs and hot the road after a break from it. It's like rediscovering freedom all over again.
